Introduction to the Wilder Method

You may not be resistant to help. You may be resistant to doing therapy the same way again.

Maybe you have talked about your childhood, identified your patterns, read the books, tried mindfulness, taken medication, or promised yourself that this time would be different. Some of it may have helped.

But when anxiety, conflict, rejection, or fear arrives, you still fall into the same response. You overthink. You avoid. You give in. You know what you need to do — and you cannot make yourself do it.

Wilder Method begins with understanding, but it does not stop there. The work helps you see the pattern, regulate what happens inside you, practice a different response, and carry that response into your actual life.

Does this sound like you?

  • I overthink everything.
  • I know I need a boundary, but I cannot hold it.
  • I feel responsible for everyone else's emotions.
  • I keep losing myself in relationships.
  • I avoid the conversations I know I need to have.
  • I understand my patterns, but I keep repeating them.
  • I am anxious even when nothing is obviously wrong.
  • I am going through a transition and no longer know who I am.
  • I am conscientious and capable, but trapped inside my own rules.
  • I know the next stage of my life is waiting, but I cannot move toward it.
  • I have tried therapy before. I want something different.
  • I need help, but I do not want to spend another year only talking.

More active than conventional talk therapy. Less intensive than an altered-state intervention.

Mental health treatment is no longer limited to one format. Some people benefit from traditional psychotherapy; others pursue medication management, ketamine-assisted care, coaching, wellness practices, or intensive retreats.

Wilder Method occupies a different space: licensed mental health therapy with an active, practical, visual, and experiential orientation — a non-drug, non-altered-state option for people who want something more embodied.

Wilder Method does not replace psychiatric care, medication management, emergency services, or medically necessary treatment.

Different in experience. Grounded in responsible clinical practice.

  • Licensed North Carolina clinical mental health care
  • Clinical assessment and treatment planning
  • Progress measurement when appropriate
  • Clear goals and real-world application
  • Evidence-informed clinical influences
  • Screening and informed consent
  • Optional experiential participation
  • Collaboration with other professionals when authorized
  • Referral to other services when needs fall outside this practice

Do you take my insurance?

We can help verify your benefits before you begin. Wilder Method assessments, Enter the Cave, cold immersion experiences, coaching, and other nonclinical services are separate from insurance-covered psychotherapy.
